Is PokéSurvivor Free to Play?
Pick a Pokémon, step into a swarm, and see how long your movement can keep you alive. You can play PokéSurvivor free in your browser, with automatic attacks, 966 playable Pokémon, and online co-op for up to four players. The PokéSurvivor free experience includes collection and progression without paid tickets, purchases, or ads, so your next unlock comes from playing.
This is an unofficial, nonprofit Pokémon fan game built around the survival formula of Vampire Survivors and Survivor.io. Your partner attacks while you dodge enemies, collect experience, and choose upgrades. Familiar Pokémon types add another decision: which move should you activate against the enemies closing in?
Here is what the free model includes:
| Feature | Cost or access |
|---|---|
| Browser gameplay | Free on PC, phone, and tablet |
| Pokémon collection | Starters and unlocks earned through gameplay |
| Regional gacha | Uses earned tickets; tickets cannot be purchased |
| Online co-op | Up to four players; each needs a free account |
| Advertising and purchases | No ads or in-game purchases |
| Optional donation | Supports operating costs and provides no gameplay advantage |
Open the PokéSurvivor game website to start. No download is required, and mobile players can optionally use Add to Home Screen for app-style access.
PokéSurvivor is separate from Pokémon Survivor Burst. Use the browser game at the address above when you want this particular combination of regional gacha, move switching, and legendary rifts.
Start Your Run and Learn the Controls
You can try PokéSurvivor free as a guest or create an account with a username and password or Google. Account progress saves to the cloud and carries across devices. Guest progress is not saved, so create an account before investing time in your collection.

The opening personality quiz suggests a partner, but its choice is flexible. You can choose another partner from the starters across all nine regions, plus Psyduck and Slowpoke. Pick a Pokémon you want to learn, then check its starting move before entering the dungeon.
Movement and Move Switching
Combat is automatic, but managing your active move remains your responsibility.
| Action | PC controls | Phone or tablet controls |
|---|---|---|
| Move | WASD or arrow keys | Drag your finger anywhere on the screen |
| Select a move | Press 1–4 or click its icon | Tap the move |
| Cycle moves | Q/E | Tap the desired move |
| Pause | Esc | Top-right pause button |
| Screen orientation | Desktop play | Landscape |
Your Pokémon normally uses one active move at a time. Other learned moves are options you switch into, rather than attacks that all fire continuously. Learning a new move makes it active immediately, so check the move bar after each selection.
That distinction matters with buff moves. Selecting Swords Dance builds attack while it is active. Switch back to an offensive move when enemies threaten your position.
Make the Opening Minutes Count
- Move in wide circles. Pull pursuing enemies into a trail instead of letting them gather around you.
- Collect dropped experience. Defeating enemies creates XP pickups; walk over them to gain that experience.
- Develop your working attack. Take upgrades that help it handle the enemies currently reaching you.
- Leave space around obstacles. Watch your escape route while collecting drops.
- Read ground warnings. Move out of filling circles and lines before the attack lands.
Take out healers and shield-casters when you can reach them safely. Their support makes the surrounding horde harder to clear, so concentrating only on the closest enemy can leave the real problem untouched.
Build Stronger Moves and Spend Coins Carefully
Each level-up offers three cards drawn from options such as new moves, move upgrades, Pokémon boosts, and eligible evolutions. Your build develops through those choices, making every level-up a chance to address the problem on screen.
If enemies survive your attacks and keep closing the gap, strengthen the active move or take an attack boost. If you cannot escape, consider speed or control. When experience piles up behind the horde, improve pickup range or circle back through a cleared route.
Avoid adding moves simply to fill every slot. Because only the active move normally attacks, several lightly upgraded moves can leave your main attack underdeveloped.
How Move Evolutions Work
Move evolution follows a specific sequence:
- Learn the move during the run.
- Upgrade it to its maximum level, level 5.
- Take the stat upgrade card required for its evolution during that same run.
- Select the gold evolution card when it appears at a level-up.
Permanent upgrades and held-item bonuses do not replace the required run-specific stat card. Evolution also requires choosing the gold card; reaching the maximum move level alone does not complete it.
Examples include Ember becoming Fire Blast and Bubble becoming Surf. The game has 59 different move evolutions, giving you plenty of paths to explore after learning the basic survival loop.
Choose Your Held Item Around Your Build
You can carry only one held item. Items appear in chests and from defeated bosses, last for the run, and require a choice when you find a replacement.
| Held item | Effect |
|---|---|
| Leftovers | Restores 1.5% of HP per second |
| Choice Band | Adds 40% damage and prevents move switching |
| Quick Claw | Reduces cooldowns on all moves by 20% |
| Focus Sash | Survive a knockout hit at 1 HP, available every 60 seconds |
| Lucky Egg | Adds 30% experience |
| Life Orb | Adds 30% damage, but attacks consume some HP |
| Amulet Coin | Adds 50% PokéCoins at the end of the run |
Read the tradeoff before replacing your current item. Keep move switching available when your build depends on changing attack types or activating buffs. Choose Choice Band when you intend to commit to your active attack.
Between runs, spend coins on the partner you actually use. Permanent upgrades belong to individual Pokémon: upgrading Squirtle does not strengthen Golduck. Focus spending while learning a favorite partner instead of spreading coins across every new unlock.
Unlock Pokémon and Hunt Shinies Without Paying
The PokéSurvivor free collection system covers 966 playable Pokémon across nine regions, from Kanto through Paldea. Each partner has its own move pool and permanent upgrades.
Gacha banners are divided by region. Choose the region containing the Pokémon you want before spending your tickets. Pulling on Kanto while chasing a Paldea partner sends your collection effort toward the wrong pool.
Regular enemies occasionally drop tickets, and bosses can provide ticket rewards. Winning a legendary rift grants a ×10 ticket for the gacha. Achievements also award tickets and coins, connecting collection progress with survival and combat milestones.
Shiny Odds and Unlocks
Shinies are alternate-color Pokémon you can collect and select as partners once owned.
| Shiny route or reward | Rule |
|---|---|
| Wild Pokémon spawn | 1 in 4,096 chance to be shiny |
| Gacha pull | 1 in 100 chance to be shiny |
| Wild shiny encounter | Defeat the sparkling Pokémon to collect it |
| Duplicate shiny | Awards triple PokéCoins |
| Playing a collected shiny | Select its shiny form in your collection |
A gacha pull has a higher shiny probability than an individual wild spawn, but neither route guarantees a shiny on a particular attempt. Keep earning tickets through regular play, and watch for sparkling enemies during runs.
When you spot a wild shiny, clear an approach before pursuing it. Its rarity does not remove the danger from the surrounding horde.
PokéSurvivor free progression also includes daily and weekly missions, medals, profile titles, and achievement rewards. There are 130 achievements, including collecting partners, evolving moves, surviving longer, and winning rift battles.
Use those objectives to give your next run a purpose. Work toward an unfinished survival milestone while upgrading your main partner, or pursue collection goals while earning tickets. Check the mission panel before launching so you know which conditions you want to complete.
Handle Type Matchups, Legendary Rifts, and Co-op
Type effectiveness works in both directions: your attacks affect enemies differently, and enemy attacks affect your partner differently. PokéSurvivor softens the familiar Pokémon chart to suit a survival game with one partner.
Match Your Active Move to the Situation
| Combat condition | Effect |
|---|---|
| Super-effective attack | ×1.6 damage |
| Resisted attack | ×0.6 damage |
| Main-series immunity matchup | ×0.3 damage |
| Dual-type matchup | Multipliers combine, capped at ×2.4 |
| Rain | Strengthens Water and weakens Fire |
| Harsh sunlight | Strengthens Fire and weakens Water |
| Sandstorm | Strengthens Rock, Ground, and Steel; other types suffer |
| Snowfall | Strengthens Ice; other types suffer and slow down |
| Fog | Strengthens Ghost, Fairy, and Psychic |
Switch attacks when another learned move offers a better matchup. Watch the weather too: a Water move gains value in rain, while harsh sunlight shifts that advantage toward Fire.
Keep movement in mind when making the switch. A favorable type multiplier does not protect you from stepping into a dense group to use a short-range attack.
Prepare Before Entering a Rift
Rifts occasionally open on the map and lead to legendary encounters. There are 18 arenas, one for each type, and 87 legendary opponents in the game's legendary roster.
Arena terrain affects movement. Lava burns, ice is slippery, and water slows you down. Dual-type legendaries randomly use an arena matching one of their types.
Check your HP, active attack, and escape options before entering. Win the fight and earn a ×10 gacha ticket; fall and return to the main map without the reward. Defeating the legendary records the battle achievement, but it does not automatically unlock that Pokémon as a playable partner.
Legendary victories also grant Bonds, which combine two moves so they fire together from one slot. Pair an offensive move with a useful buff when both are available, allowing the bonded slot to handle both functions.
Team Up With Friends
You can play PokéSurvivor free with up to four people in online co-op. Each player needs an account. Add friends by nickname, invite them to a room, and start once everyone has joined.
Experience is shared, and standing beside a fallen teammate revives them. Clear nearby threats before attempting the revive, and coordinate who handles support enemies.
Group members enter rifts together. Discuss attack coverage before stepping in so the team can respond to the encounter.
Co-op connects teammates' browsers directly, which can expose IP addresses to each other. Play with people you know, as the game's privacy notice recommends. The group game also continues while you have the pause menu open, so tell teammates before stepping away.
