Which PokéSurvivor Upgrades Should You Prioritize?
A crowded screen can end your run before another damage upgrade gets a chance to help. PokéSurvivor upgrades matter because permanent improvements, level-up cards, and move evolutions solve different problems. Prioritize PokéSurvivor upgrades that address what keeps defeating you: movement when enemies catch you, damage when your attack stops clearing space, and survival when you cannot recover between hits.
Start by separating permanent spending from the choices you make inside a dungeon. Coins strengthen a specific partner between attempts; experience creates upgrade opportunities during the current run.
| Upgrade system | How it works | What it affects |
|---|---|---|
| Permanent upgrades | Spend coins in Upgrades for a selected Pokémon | Future runs with that Pokémon |
| Level-up cards | Collect experience, then choose among three cards | Moves and stats during the current run |
| Move evolutions | Max out a move and meet its required upgrade condition | The qualifying move during that run |
| Bonds | Defeat a legendary to access move fusion | Bonded moves fire together from one slot |
| Held items | Find items in chests or through boss defeats | The current run; only one item can be held |
Only your active move attacks automatically. Learning several moves gives you options to switch between, rather than several ordinary attacks firing together. Bonds provide the exception by combining moves in a single slot.
That distinction changes your spending priorities. Strengthen the move doing your regular clearing before distributing upgrades across attacks you rarely activate. Add another move when it supplies useful range, coverage, or a different answer to the enemies ahead.
Invest in the partner you actually play
Each Pokémon has its own permanent upgrade track. Spending coins on Sprigatito does not improve Rhyhorn or the rest of your collection.
Choose a partner whose starting attack and movement you enjoy, then direct your early spending toward its recurring weaknesses. If enemies repeatedly catch you, prioritize available movement improvements. If you have room to dodge but cannot defeat approaching groups, strengthen your offensive foundation.
The October 12 update added several options that make permanent PokéSurvivor upgrades more useful for planning:
| Option | Effect |
|---|---|
| Critical Hit | Adds 3% critical chance per level; critical hits deal ×1.5 damage |
| Card reroll | Adds one level-up card reroll per run for each upgrade level |
| Ban | Blocks selected moves from appearing in your cards |
| Move shortcuts | Assigns particular moves to consistent slots |
Use bans after deciding which moves you want to exclude. Keep useful coverage available instead of removing every attack outside your preferred type. Set move shortcuts around the attacks you switch to regularly so their controls stay familiar during crowded fights.
Choose Level-Up Cards Around the Current Threat
Defeated enemies drop experience, but those drops only advance your level bar once you collect them. Move through cleared space to gather orbs instead of chasing a pickup through an approaching horde.

Every level-up offers three cards. These can introduce a move, improve an existing attack, or boost your Pokémon. Choose around the immediate problem while keeping your evolution plan in view.
| Situation | Card or action to consider |
|---|---|
| Your active attack leaves too many enemies alive | Upgrade that move or take an Attack card |
| Enemies keep catching you | Take Speed or a relevant control option |
| Experience orbs remain scattered behind you | Take Magnet or route through cleared drops |
| Your HP is low | Take Heal or an available survival improvement |
| Your move is maxed without an evolution option | Take its required stat card during this run |
| The offered cards do not fit your build | Use an available reroll |
Heal restores about 45% of your HP immediately; it does not increase maximum HP. Use it to recover from damage, then correct the positioning that caused those hits. Armor and movement choices address different problems, so avoid treating every defensive card as interchangeable.
Keep one attack dependable
Give your main clearing move enough upgrades to remain effective as enemies become tougher. An additional attack starts another upgrade commitment, and it still requires switching to become active.
Learning a new move also makes it active immediately. Check the move bar after taking one, especially if you just learned a melee attack or a support move. Switch back when you need the range or coverage of your previous attack.
On PC, use 1–4, Q/E, or the move icons to switch. On mobile, tap the move you want while playing in landscape.
Spend rerolls with a purpose
You receive one free card reroll per run. Additional rerolls come from permanent upgrades; boss defeats no longer grant them after the October 12 change.
Use a reroll when the current choices fail to address an urgent weakness or offer little toward your planned evolution. Take a useful card when it appears instead of repeatedly chasing one exact result.
Speed, cooldown, experience, magnet, armor, and power cards have limited selections following the October 11 update. Plan PokéSurvivor upgrades around both immediate survival and the stat requirement for your main move.
Plan Move Evolutions and Bonds Together
Move evolution requires more than repeatedly choosing damage. Your attack must reach its maximum level, and you must take the matching stat upgrade during the same run.
Permanent upgrades and held-item bonuses do not replace that required card.
| Step | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Learn the move | Have the attack in your current run |
| Upgrade it | Reach move level 5 |
| Take the matching stat card | Choose the specific upgrade required by that move |
| Select the evolution | Pick its gold evolution card when offered |
Evolution is a card choice, rather than an automatic transformation. Ember can become Fire Blast, and Bubble can become Surf, but each still needs its qualifying upgrade.
Read the requirement for the move you intend to develop. Pick the matching stat card when offered, then continue leveling the attack. This keeps your route focused without forcing you to ignore an urgent survival choice.
Avoid competing upgrade commitments
Select a main evolution target and support it with the cards it needs. Adding several underleveled moves gives you more switches to manage while delaying the attack you use most.
Build your supporting choices around a specific job:
- Add coverage for enemies that resist your main attack.
- Add range when approaching targets exposes you to damage.
- Take movement improvements when you cannot maintain an escape route.
- Take recovery when repeated damage leaves you unable to survive another encounter.
These decisions give PokéSurvivor upgrades a clear purpose throughout the run.
Use Bonds for simultaneous attacks
Defeating a legendary lets you fuse moves through the Bond system. Bonded moves fire together and occupy a single slot.
Combine attacks that complement the way you position yourself. Pair compatible coverage with your main attack rather than choosing another move solely because its name sounds powerful.
Keep ordinary move selection and Bond behavior separate in your planning. Carrying several unbonded moves still requires active switching; learning another attack alone does not add continuous damage alongside your current one.
Match Your Held Item to Your Upgrade Plan
Held items last for the run, and you can carry only one. Finding another item creates a replacement decision rather than another stacking bonus.
Choose around your current weakness and your move setup.
| Held item | Effect |
|---|---|
| Leftovers | Restores 1.5% of your HP per second |
| Choice Band | Adds 40% damage but prevents move switching |
| Quick Claw | Reduces cooldown on all moves by 20% |
| Focus Sash | Leaves you at 1 HP after an otherwise fatal hit, every 60 s |
| Shell Bell | Heals you through the damage you deal |
| Amulet Coin | Adds 50% PokéCoins at the end of the run |
| Lucky Egg | Adds 30% experience |
| Life Orb | Adds 30% damage, with a small HP cost per attack |
| Choice Scarf | Adds 35% speed |
| Rocky Helmet | Damages enemies that hit you in melee |
| Assault Vest | Adds 20% damage reduction |
Choice Band deserves particular attention. Its damage bonus comes with a move-switching lock, so inspect your active attack before committing. Keep switching available when your plan depends on changing types for different enemies.
Life Orb also needs a deliberate choice. Account for its HP cost before replacing a recovery item, especially when you are already taking frequent hits.
Use Amulet Coin to increase the settlement from a run you can sustain. Preserve a survival item when replacing it would leave you struggling to stay alive. Lucky Egg improves experience gain, but you still need to collect the orbs.
For permanent PokéSurvivor upgrades, use the end-of-run reward to strengthen the Pokémon you intend to play again. Complete missions and achievements alongside normal runs to earn their listed coins and tickets.
Adapt Your Build to Types, Weather, and Late Encounters
A stronger move can still struggle against an unfavorable matchup. PokéSurvivor uses a softened type chart: super-effective attacks deal ×1.6, resisted attacks deal ×0.6, and traditional immunities become ×0.3. Dual-type modifiers multiply, with a cap of ×2.4.
Switch attacks when another available type answers the enemy in front of you. For example, avoid forcing Grass damage into Bug opponents when you have a more suitable option. Preserve enough distance for that replacement attack to work.
Weather also changes your damage plan. Rain strengthens Water and weakens Fire; harsh sunlight reverses that relationship. Sandstorm favors Rock, Ground, and Steel, while snowfall favors Ice and slows other Pokémon. Fog boosts Ghost, Fairy, and Psychic.
Reassess melee attacks after the October 12 update
Melee attacks received three improvements: 25% greater reach, 20% more damage, and 25% less incoming damage while active.
Use the extra reach to maintain space rather than walking directly into groups. Continue dodging ground markers and approaching threats. The damage reduction supports close combat, but positioning still determines how many hits you take.
Rock Slide also changed in that update, dropping from 26 damage to 21. Account for the reduced damage when choosing it for your current build.
Prepare for the Judgment of Arceus
The October 13 update changed the late-run target. At minute 30, Arceus brings you to the Ruins of Judgment. This encounter's Arceus is invincible, accelerates its pursuit, and uses pillars of light, beams, and shockwaves.
Prioritize movement and survival as that checkpoint approaches. Contact removes almost half your HP, and another legendary arrives every five seconds, each with twice the HP and damage of the previous one.
Rifts stop opening from minute 28. Complete your intended rift challenges before that cutoff, then focus your remaining PokéSurvivor upgrades on surviving the Judgment.

FAQ
Are PokéSurvivor upgrades shared across all Pokémon?
No. Permanent upgrades belong to the Pokémon you purchase them for and only apply when you play that partner. Focus your coins on the Pokémon you regularly use.
Why has my level 5 move not evolved?
It also needs its matching stat card from the current run. Once both requirements are met, select the gold evolution card when offered. Permanent upgrades and held-item bonuses do not substitute for the required card.
Do all four move slots attack simultaneously?
Ordinary moves do not. Your selected move attacks automatically, and the other slots provide switching options. Bonded moves fire together from one slot.
Should I always choose damage over survival?
Choose the upgrade that addresses the threat ending your run. Improve damage when enemies survive your attacks; take movement, healing, or protection when you cannot escape or withstand their hits.
