How PokéSurvivor Evolutions Work
PokéSurvivor evolutions turn familiar attacks into stronger moves, giving you more firepower when the horde starts closing in. Reaching those upgrades matters because collecting extra attacks alone does not make every move fire together. Plan your PokéSurvivor evolutions around one working attack, its required upgrade, and enough room to keep collecting experience.
The evolution system centers on moves. Ember can become Fire Blast, and Bubble can become Surf. Your partner’s species, move upgrades, held item, and permanent upgrades are separate parts of your build.
To evolve an attack, learn it during the run, raise it to maximum level, take its required stat upgrade during that same run, and select the gold evolution card when it appears.
| Step | What to do | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Learn the move | Choose its card during a level-up | The move must belong to your current run |
| Upgrade the move | Select upgrade cards for that attack | Reach move level 5 |
| Take the required upgrade | Choose the stat card that the evolution needs | Acquire it during the same run |
| Select the evolution | Pick the gold evolution card when offered | Complete the move and upgrade requirements |
Your Pokémon’s level and your move’s level are different. Collecting experience earns another card selection; it does not automatically raise every attack you carry. Select the move’s upgrade cards to advance that attack.
Each level-up presents three different cards from a weighted pool. Those choices can include new moves, move upgrades, stat boosts, and eligible evolutions. Completing the prerequisites makes an evolution eligible for the card offers; keep collecting experience until you can select it.
Permanent upgrades and held-item bonuses do not replace the required stat card. Even with increased damage before entering the dungeon, you still need the matching upgrade inside that run.
Plan Your Move Evolution Paths
Start your PokéSurvivor evolutions plan with the attack you are actually using. Your partner attacks automatically with the active move, while other move slots give you options to switch into.

That distinction changes your upgrade priorities. Four learned moves are not four simultaneous attacks. Spread every selection across different moves and you can end up with several unfinished options while the attack doing your work remains underleveled.
| Starting move | Evolved move | Evolution planning |
|---|---|---|
| Ember | Fire Blast | Max Ember and take its required upgrade |
| Bubble | Surf | Max Bubble and take its required upgrade |
| Quick Attack | Extreme Speed | Complete Quick Attack’s evolution requirements |
Use these paths as targets when the moves appear in your partner’s available choices. Each Pokémon has its own move pool, so choose your partner with the attacks you want to develop in mind.
Commit to One Attack Without Ignoring Survival
Upgrade your main damage move when it stops clearing approaching enemies. Add another attack when it answers a specific problem, such as an unfavorable type matchup or a need for a different attack pattern.
Keep the following checklist beside your upgrade decisions:
- Identify the attack currently clearing enemies.
- Select its upgrades when offered.
- Take the stat card its evolution requires.
- Collect experience through safe openings.
- Choose the gold evolution card when it appears.
- Switch attacks when the matchup demands it.
Learning a new move makes it active immediately. Check your move bar after taking one, especially if you just learned a buff or a close-range attack. Switch back to your developed damage move before continuing into a dense group.
On PC, use 1–4, Q/E, or click a move icon to switch. On mobile, tap the move you want while playing in landscape.
Leave Room for Card Offers
Do not force a new attack just because your planned upgrade is absent. Take a stat card that addresses the immediate problem: movement when enemies catch you, defense when hits hurt, or recovery when health is running out.
Evolution planning requires surviving enough level-ups to finish the sequence. Keep your route open rather than crossing a packed horde for a single experience pickup.
Choose Held Items That Support Your Build
Held items can change how your evolution build plays, but they occupy a separate system from evolution requirements. You can carry one held item at a time. Items appear in chests and from defeated bosses, and finding another lets you choose which one to keep.
For PokéSurvivor evolutions, separate two decisions: which card completes your move’s requirements, and which item supports your current run.
| Held item | Effect | Tradeoff or condition |
|---|---|---|
| Quick Claw | Reduces cooldown on all moves by 20% | Uses your single held-item slot |
| Lucky Egg | Increases experience gained by 30% | Uses your single held-item slot |
| Choice Band | Increases damage by 40% | Prevents move switching |
| Life Orb | Increases damage by 30% | Each attack costs some HP |
| Leftovers | Restores 1.5% of HP per second | Uses your single held-item slot |
| Focus Sash | A knockout hit leaves you at 1 HP | Effect available every 60 seconds |
| Assault Vest | Reduces damage taken by 20% | Uses your single held-item slot |
Take Lucky Egg when you want more experience feeding your level-up choices. Keep collecting the dropped experience; the bonus cannot help with orbs you leave behind.
Choose Quick Claw when you want shorter cooldowns without giving up move switching. Its effect applies across your moves, including the options you rotate between.
Read Choice Band’s restriction before accepting it. Commit only when you want to remain on your current attack or Bond combination. If your plan depends on switching for type coverage, preserve that flexibility.
Life Orb trades health for damage. Check your recovery tools and current HP before replacing a defensive item with it.
When repeated hits threaten the run, choose recovery or damage reduction over another offensive bonus. An evolved attack still needs time and space to deal damage.
Combine Evolutions With Bonds, Types, and Weather
PokéSurvivor evolutions and Bonds solve different build problems. Evolution changes a move into its upgraded form. A Bond links moves so they fire together and occupy one slot.
Winning a legendary rift battle grants a Bond opportunity. The game supports up to four Bonds, letting you combine moves beyond the normal four-slot arrangement.
Choose two learned moves you want firing together when a Bond opportunity appears. Keep upgrading the moves you intend to use together rather than collecting unrelated attacks.
A Bond does not replace an evolution requirement. Continue leveling the attack and taking its required stat card even when it already fires alongside another move.
Match Your Active Attack to the Enemy
The type chart affects damage in both directions. Super-effective attacks deal 1.6× damage, resisted attacks deal 0.6×, and matchups that would normally be immune take 0.3×. Dual-type modifiers multiply, with a maximum of 2.4×.
Switch to an effective move against the threat in front of you. A completed evolution still faces resistance, so keep another type available when your move pool allows it.
Weather adds another modifier to those decisions:
| Weather | Effect |
|---|---|
| Rain | Strengthens Water and weakens Fire |
| Harsh sunlight | Strengthens Fire and weakens Water |
| Sandstorm | Boosts Rock, Ground, and Steel; other types suffer |
| Snowfall | Boosts Ice; other types suffer and slow down |
| Fog | Boosts Ghost, Fairy, and Psychic |
Check weather before committing to a prolonged fight. During rain, favor an available Water attack over a weakened Fire option when the enemy matchup supports that switch.
Rifts place legendary enemies in one of 18 type arenas with their own terrain and weather. Lava burns, ice is slippery, and water slows movement. Inspect your health, active attack, and movement options before entering.
Keep Your Evolution Plan Alive
Most problems with PokéSurvivor evolutions come down to an unfinished requirement or a run that ends before the final card arrives. Check the build in order instead of abandoning your damage plan.
Troubleshoot a Missing Evolution
If your attack remains unchanged, check that you have:
- Learned the move in the current run.
- Raised that specific move to level 5.
- Taken its required stat card during this run.
- Selected the gold evolution card when offered.
Do not substitute a similar-looking bonus. A held item’s damage increase and a permanent attack upgrade do not satisfy a required run card.
Once the prerequisites are complete, keep collecting experience. Card selection still matters, and eligibility does not turn the move into its evolved form automatically.
Protect Your Experience Route
Move in wide circles to draw pursuing enemies into a line. Collect orbs through cleared space, and leave an escape route before approaching a chest.
Prioritize enemies that heal or shield their allies. Their support can keep the horde alive while you wait for another upgrade. Step out of filling circles and lines on the ground before the telegraphed attack lands.
Spend coins on the partner you intend to keep playing. Permanent upgrades belong to individual Pokémon and apply only when you use that partner. Switching species means switching to that Pokémon’s own upgrade progress.
Track Evolution Achievements
Evolution also contributes to long-term achievement progress:
| Achievement | Unlock requirement |
|---|---|
| Evolution | Evolve a move |
| Evolutionist | Evolve 25 moves |
| Move master | Evolve all 59 different moves |
For Move master, rotate through different evolution paths rather than repeating only your familiar attack. For the 25-move milestone, keep completing evolutions during normal survival runs.
Start with one path, learn how its attack behaves, and expand from there. You can play PokéSurvivor in your browser on PC or mobile.
FAQ
How do PokéSurvivor evolutions activate?
Learn a move, upgrade it to level 5, take its required stat card during the same run, and select the gold evolution card when offered. Evolution requires that final card selection.
