How PokéSurvivor Items Work

One held item can change how you play an entire run. PokéSurvivor items matter because you can hold only one, so every replacement changes the benefit your Pokémon carries into the next fight. Choose PokéSurvivor items around the move you actually use, the danger on screen, and whether you’re chasing survival or coins.

The game has 11 held items, with collection achievements for finding different ones. During a run, the item selection screen lets you compare your options. Read that choice carefully: Choice Band restricts move switching, while Amulet Coin affects your run’s settlement. Both choices use the same single slot.

SystemHow it works
Held itemsYou can hold one item at a time
Active movesYour Pokémon automatically uses its selected move
BondsBonded moves fire together while occupying one move slot
Permanent upgradesEach Pokémon has its own upgrades, which apply when you play that Pokémon

These systems work together, but they serve different purposes. Learning more moves gives you options to switch between; it doesn’t make every move attack simultaneously. Bonds provide that simultaneous firing for paired moves.

Your held item is another decision layered onto that setup. Check your active move before accepting gear that restricts switching. Then look at your health, damage, and escape route before choosing between keeping your current item and taking a replacement.

Compare Damage, Cooldown, Experience, and Coin Items

Compare PokéSurvivor items by their actual descriptions, then separate their effects from the upgrade cards you choose at level-ups. Choice Band changes move switching, and Amulet Coin multiplies the run’s coin settlement. Attack, cooldown, and experience decisions also belong to your broader upgrade plan.

Choice Band: Check Your Active Move First

Choice Band locks move switching. If you rely on changing attacks for different enemies, equipping it removes that flexibility.

Select the damaging move you intend to use before accepting Choice Band. Avoid locking yourself into a standalone buff move when you need an attack to clear enemies.

Bonds change the decision. When a damaging move and a buff are bonded, both fire from the same slot. Consider that setup when deciding whether you can commit to one active slot.

Don’t confuse Choice Band’s restriction with a Bond malfunction. If you can’t cycle through your moves while holding it, check your item before trying different controls.

Check Attack Upgrades Alongside Your Item

Level-up cards can improve moves you already know or boost your Pokémon. When your current attack stops clearing enemies, inspect its upgrades and the Attack card instead of expecting an item replacement to solve the entire problem.

Upgrade the move you’re actively using before spreading choices across attacks you rarely select. Since only the active move fires automatically, an upgrade to a separate move won’t help until you switch to it.

Check the HUD after learning a new move. Learning one makes it active immediately, so switch back if the new selection doesn’t suit the enemies approaching you.

Collect Experience Before Planning More Upgrades

Defeated enemies leave experience orbs that you need to collect. Level-ups provide choices among new moves, move upgrades, stat boosts, and eligible evolutions.

Walk through the experience orbs your attacks leave behind. Defeating enemies produces the opportunity to gain experience, but you still need to collect it.

If orbs are piling up, consider the Magnet card or reroute through a safe opening. Avoid cutting through the center of a horde just because a large pile of experience is waiting there.

Keep that collection route in mind when accepting Choice Band. Check whether the move you’re committing to can clear the enemies between you and their drops.

Amulet Coin: Weigh the Settlement Against Survival

Amulet Coin is a random run drop that multiplies the run’s coin settlement. Taking it means replacing the item you already hold.

The settlement includes survival time, kills, boss defeats, and collected coins before applying the run’s coin multiplier. Each defeated boss contributes 80 coins to that calculation.

Compare the payout benefit with what you would give up. Keep your current item if replacing it would disrupt the move setup you’re relying on to survive and collect rewards.

How to Find Items Without Losing the Run

PokéSurvivor items appear during runs. Chests and defeated bosses provide opportunities to obtain them, but reaching a reward safely is part of the challenge.

Locked chests require you to remain nearby until they open. That creates a positioning problem: you need enough space to stay close without letting enemies surround you.

OpportunityWhat to do
Locked chestStay nearby until it opens
Defeated regular bossCollect the drops after the fight
New item choiceCompare the offered item with the one you already hold

Approach a locked chest with an exit route in mind. Circle nearby enemies first, then move into position when your attack has created room. Step away if the crowd closes in; an unopened chest is a better outcome than ending the run beside it.

After defeating a boss, check the area before moving through its drops. Experience, coins, items, and possible tickets can draw you toward the same spot, but nearby enemies still demand attention.

Prioritize healers and shield-casters when they make the surrounding horde difficult to clear. Removing those support enemies can help you create the opening needed to collect rewards.

Keep Moving During Co-op Choices

In group games, the game keeps running while you’re in the pause menu. Keep watching nearby enemies while making item decisions.

Discuss your intended choices with teammates before entering crowded fights. Keep moving when possible, and avoid lingering over a comparison while a horde reaches your position.

If a teammate falls, clear or lure away nearby threats before attempting a revive. Standing beside a downed teammate can revive them, but you need a safe opening to do it.

Match Your Held Item to Your Moves and Matchups

Choosing PokéSurvivor items gets easier when you start with the problem your build needs to solve. Check whether enemies survive your attacks, whether attacks arrive too slowly, or whether incoming hits end the run.

Then compare the item description and your available upgrade cards with that specific problem.

  • Damage feels insufficient: Upgrade the active move or consider the Attack card.
  • You need different attack types: Preserve move switching before accepting Choice Band.
  • Hits consume too much health: Consider Heal or a survival stat card, and leave the incoming attack’s marked area.
  • Experience is piling up: Consider Magnet or move through the orbs when a route opens.
  • You’re focused on the run’s coin payout: Weigh Amulet Coin against the item you would replace.

These are decisions to make from your current position, not a fixed item ranking. A switching restriction matters much more when your plan involves several separate moves than when you intend to stay on one bonded slot.

Use Type Advantages Before Replacing Gear

PokéSurvivor’s type chart changes damage in both directions. Super-effective attacks deal 1.6 times damage, resisted attacks deal 0.6 times damage, and traditional immunities become 0.3 times damage. Dual-type multipliers combine, with a cap of 2.4 times.

Check your active attack against the enemies blocking your route. Switch to a favorable type when your held item allows it. Avoid expecting an item bonus to solve every unfavorable matchup.

Weather adds another consideration. Rain strengthens Water and weakens Fire; harsh sunlight does the reverse. Sandstorm boosts Rock, Ground, and Steel. Snowfall boosts Ice, while other types suffer and slow down. Fog boosts Ghost, Fairy, and Psychic.

Watch those changes before committing to Choice Band. Preserve the ability to switch when your plan depends on adapting to the enemies and weather you encounter.

Keep Item Bonuses Separate From Move Evolution

Held gear doesn’t replace the stat card required for a move evolution.

To evolve an eligible move, learn it, raise it to level 5, take its required stat card during that run, and choose the gold evolution card when offered. Permanent upgrades also don’t substitute for that run-specific card.

Keep tracking those requirements after equipping an item. A stronger attack and an evolution-ready attack are separate things.

Level-ups draw three different cards from a weighted pool, so a particular upgrade isn’t guaranteed at a particular level. Take a useful move upgrade or survival card when the evolution requirement you want isn’t offered.

Read Other Item Names Carefully

Leftovers and Life Orb are also held items in PokéSurvivor. They compete for the same single slot as Choice Band and Amulet Coin.

Read the item’s description before accepting it. Familiar Pokémon names aren’t a reason to skip the choice screen, especially when the replacement costs you an effect you already depend on.

For PokéSurvivor items, the practical question remains the same: what changes when this becomes your only held item?

Track Item Achievements and Use Your Coin Rewards

Finding PokéSurvivor items contributes to two collection achievements. These goals count different items, so repeatedly finding the same one doesn’t satisfy the variety requirement.

AchievementUnlock requirement
Full bagFind 5 different items
Item collectorFind all 11 items

Check your achievement progress between runs. If you’re pursuing Item collector, pay attention to unfamiliar item names when they appear. Read the replacement choice before accepting it, especially if your current gear supports the setup keeping you alive.

Keep the distinction between finding items and holding items clear. The achievements require finding different items; your active held-item slot still allows only one.

Achievements award medals and rewards such as tickets and coins. Spend earned coins on upgrades for the partner you intend to keep playing. Each Pokémon has its own permanent upgrades, so improving one doesn’t strengthen your entire collection.

Use Amulet Coin decisions with that next upgrade in mind. Compare the increased settlement with the risk of giving up your current item, then spend the payout where it supports your next run.

Play through an account if you want cloud-saved progress across devices. Guest play lets you start immediately, but progress isn’t saved.

When you’re ready to put these choices into practice, start a PokéSurvivor run in your browser. Check your active move, read every replacement effect, and keep an escape route open while collecting rewards.

FAQ

How many PokéSurvivor items are there?

There are 11 held items. Finding five different items unlocks Full bag, while finding all 11 unlocks Item collector.

Can you hold multiple items at once?

No. You can hold one item at a time. Compare a new item with your current one before choosing the replacement.

Why can’t I switch moves after equipping Choice Band?

Choice Band prevents move switching. Check your active move before accepting it, especially if you use separate buff and damage moves.

Do held items unlock move evolutions?

Held-item bonuses don’t replace evolution requirements. Raise an eligible move to level 5, take its required stat card during the same run, and select the gold evolution card when it appears.
