What Is PokéSurvivor, and Which Pokémon Can You Play?
PokéSurvivor Pokemon puts your favorite partner in the middle of a closing horde, with automatic attacks and barely enough room to escape. Surviving means choosing moves that clear a path, collecting experience, and knowing when to switch attacks. This PokéSurvivor Pokemon guide walks you through partner selection, permanent upgrades, shiny hunting, and legendary rifts so each run has a clear purpose.
PokéSurvivor is a free browser survival game with 966 playable Pokémon across nine regions. Its combat follows the survivors-like formula: move through an endless map, defeat enemies, collect experience, and choose upgrades as the pressure builds.
You control the Pokémon itself. Your active move fires automatically, leaving you responsible for positioning and move selection. The game supports PC, phones, and tablets, with mobile devices held horizontally.
Start with a partner and learn the controls
In PokéSurvivor Pokemon, the opening personality quiz suggests a partner, but you can choose another. Starting options include each region’s starter trio, plus Psyduck and Slowpoke.
| Action | PC | Phone or tablet |
|---|---|---|
| Move | WASD or arrow keys | Drag your finger anywhere on the screen |
| Select a move | 1–4 or click its icon | Tap the move |
| Cycle moves | Q/E | Tap the desired move |
| Pause | Esc | Tap the top-right pause button |
Learn move switching before chasing longer survival times. Having several moves available does not mean they all attack simultaneously.
Create an account if you want lasting progress. Account saves sync through the cloud and let you continue on another device; guest progress is not saved. You can start playing through the PokéSurvivor browser game.
Understand the playable roster
The collection covers Kanto through Paldea, but it contains 966 Pokémon rather than every species in the main series.
| Region | Playable Pokémon | Starting trio |
|---|---|---|
| Kanto | 151 | Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle |
| Johto | 100 | Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile |
| Hoenn | 135 | Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip |
| Sinnoh | 107 | Turtwig, Chimchar, Piplup |
| Unova | 141 | Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott |
| Kalos | 70 | Chespin, Fennekin, Froakie |
| Alola | 83 | Rowlet, Litten, Popplio |
| Galar | 87 | Grookey, Scorbunny, Sobble |
| Paldea | 92 | Sprigatito, Fuecoco, Quaxly |
Each partner has its own moves and permanent upgrade track. Compare the starting attack and available moves before committing coins, especially when switching from a ranged partner to one that fights up close.
Build Your Run Around the Active Move
The defining PokéSurvivor Pokemon combat rule is simple: only the active move normally fires. Your other slots hold alternatives to switch into.

This makes utility moves a deliberate commitment. Swords Dance builds attack while active but deals no damage. Agility builds speed. If you select a buff and stay on it, your regular damage move stops firing.
Learning a new move also makes it active immediately. Check the move bar after each selection, then switch back when the new option does not suit the enemies approaching.
Choose upgrades that solve the current problem
Every level presents three cards. These can teach a move, improve an existing move, or boost your Pokémon.
Use the situation on screen to guide the choice:
- Enemies survive your attacks: upgrade the damage move you are using or take a damage boost.
- Fast enemies keep catching you: take movement speed and route toward open ground.
- You are collecting too little experience: circle back through cleared areas and gather the dropped orbs.
- Small hits keep wearing you down: consider regeneration or defensive upgrades.
- One matchup stalls your damage: add an available attack of a different type.
Avoid filling every slot just because another move appears. Strengthen the attack that already creates safe openings, then add options that address its weaknesses.
Move in broad circles to draw enemies behind you. Cut back toward experience only after your attacks open a route. A pile of untouched orbs represents levels you have not collected, but charging through a crowd to reach it can end the run.
Evolve moves and use Bonds
Move evolution changes the attack itself. Ember can become Fire Blast, and Bubble can become Surf.
To evolve an eligible move, raise it to its maximum level, take the required upgrade during that run, and select the golden evolution card when offered. Permanent upgrades do not replace the required run upgrade.
Move evolution and Bonds serve different purposes. Evolution transforms a move. A Bond joins two moves so they fire together while occupying one slot.
Legendary rift victories grant Bonds. Pairing a damage move with a buff can remove the need to repeatedly switch between them.
Keep moving after earning a Bond. Stronger offense does not remove terrain hazards, incoming projectiles, or unfavorable type matchups.
Use Type Matchups, Weather, and Held Items
Your PokéSurvivor Pokemon build needs coverage as well as damage. Familiar Pokémon matchups apply, but their multipliers are softened for survival combat.
| Matchup | Damage multiplier |
|---|---|
| Super effective | ×1.6 |
| Not very effective | ×0.6 |
| Main-series immunity | ×0.3 |
| Dual-type calculation | Multiply both modifiers; maximum ×2.4 |
These rules affect incoming damage too. A Pokémon that clears one group comfortably can still take heavy damage from a different attacking type.
Psychic attacks against Dark-type enemies illustrate the problem: the damage falls to ×0.3. Switch to another available move instead of repeatedly firing the same weakened attack.
Adjust when the weather changes
Rain strengthens Water and weakens Fire. Harsh sunlight reverses that relationship.
Sandstorm boosts Rock, Ground, and Steel while penalizing other types. Snowfall favors Ice and slows other types, while fog boosts Ghost, Fairy, and Psychic.
Watch movement conditions alongside damage. Water can slow you down, ice affects footing, and lava burns. Plan an escape route before fighting near hazardous terrain.
Enemies also have support roles. Some heal allies, provide shields, or summon reinforcements. Target healers and shield users when you can reach them safely, and step outside filling circles or lines before their attacks land.
Read held-item tradeoffs before swapping
You can hold one item at a time. Items appear in chests and from bosses, and their effects last for the run.
| Held item | Effect |
|---|---|
| Leftovers | Restores 1.5% of your HP per second |
| Quick Claw | Reduces cooldown on all moves by 20% |
| Choice Band | Adds 40% damage but prevents move switching |
| Shell Bell | Heals you through damage dealt |
| Life Orb | Adds 30% damage; each attack costs some HP |
| Assault Vest | Reduces damage taken by 20% |
| Amulet Coin | Adds 50% PokéCoins at the end of the run |
Check Choice Band carefully before replacing your current item. Its damage bonus comes with a switching restriction that directly affects builds using multiple attack types or separate buffs.
Likewise, account for Life Orb’s HP cost before taking it during a run where you already struggle to stay healthy.
Unlock More Pokémon and Hunt Shinies
Expanding your PokéSurvivor Pokemon collection uses regional gacha machines and tickets earned through gameplay. Tickets cannot be purchased with real money.
Regular enemies occasionally drop tickets. Bosses can provide tickets too, and winning a legendary rift awards a ×10 ticket.
Choose the region containing the Pokémon you want before spending. Kanto includes Mew and Mewtwo, Hoenn includes Rayquaza and Jirachi, and Alola includes Solgaleo and Lunala. Pull results are random, so selecting a region narrows the collection pool without guaranteeing a particular partner.
Duplicates return PokéCoins. Duplicate shinies award triple PokéCoins.
Separate shiny hunting from ordinary unlocks
Shinies are alternate-color Pokémon you can select as playable partners once owned.
| Shiny route | Chance | How to obtain it |
|---|---|---|
| Wild spawn | 1 in 4,096 | Defeat the sparkling Pokémon |
| Gacha pull | 1 in 100 | Receive a shiny from a pull |
The gacha has a higher shiny chance per attempt. Wild hunting still adds a target during normal runs: watch for the sparkle and alert, then clear a safe route toward the Pokémon.
After unlocking a shiny, open your collection and select its shiny form. Owning the variant and choosing it for play are separate actions.
Spend coins on a partner you intend to keep using
Permanent upgrades belong to individual Pokémon. Coins invested in Bulbasaur do not strengthen a newly unlocked Mew.
Focus spending on a partner whose controls and move pool you enjoy. Address the weakness that repeatedly ends your runs, whether that is movement, damage, durability, or collecting experience.
Review missions and achievements between attempts. The achievement system includes rewards for collection milestones, survival, boss victories, move evolution, and group play. These goals let you work toward rewards while practicing the same partner.
Prepare for Legendary Rifts and Four-Player Co-op
Rifts add a concentrated challenge to a PokéSurvivor Pokemon run. Entering one takes you into a legendary battle with terrain and weather tied to the arena’s type.
There are 18 arenas, one for each type, and 87 Pokémon in the game’s legendary category. A dual-type legendary randomly uses one of its types for the arena.
Win to earn a ×10 gacha ticket. Fall during the encounter and you return to the main map without the reward.
Before entering:
- Check your HP and recovery options.
- Confirm which damaging move is active.
- Review your available type coverage.
- Account for terrain that can limit movement.
- Agree on the plan if playing with friends.
Defeating a legendary records progress but does not automatically unlock it as a playable partner. Use the collection unlock systems to obtain the Pokémon itself.
Set up co-op and protect revives
Online co-op supports up to four players. Each player needs an account; add friends by nickname, invite them into a room, and start once everyone has joined.
Experience is shared. You revive a fallen teammate by standing beside them, so keep the group within a distance where help is practical.
Bring complementary move types and call out healers, shields, rifts, and dangerous ground attacks. Before attempting a revive, clear nearby threats so the rescuing player can remain beside the fallen teammate.
The game continues while you open the pause menu in a group session. Move somewhere safe before changing settings.
Co-op can connect teammates’ browsers directly, allowing players to see one another’s IP addresses. Play group sessions with people you know.
